IB I - Grade 11

The IB art curriculum uses as its model college level studio courses where much of the course will focus on developing the ability for personal insight. Students will encounter new ideas about the nature of art and will be required to challenge their preconceptions through research and studio work. Students can choose to explore possibilities in a range of mediums, including drawing, painting, photography, computer-assisted graphics, sculpture and installation. Students may also involve themselves in a combination of these possibilities.

During the IB Year One program, students complete projects in a variety of media that reinforce their knowledge of the principles and elements of contemporary art making. During the first year the student is exposed to art concepts, criticism and analysis, is involved in the acquisition of technical and media skills, and with the relationship of art to socio-cultural and historical contexts. Students will commonly use an artist model as a starting point for their own exploration.

Organic Abstraction - Natural forms are the basis for these abstract paintings

Minimalism - Color, line and shape generate ambiguuously spatial forms

Personal Still Life - A record of an aspect of the student's life using collected items

Rauschenberg Study - Collage and transfer are the basis for paintings exploring the cusp between Abstract Expressionism and Pop
